SB 1674 Moves to State Assembly
Senate Bill 1674, which would create teacher training opportunities for after school workers and make improvements to the After School Education and Safety Program, has successfully moved through the Senate and now moves to the Assembly. The bill will have a hearing in the Assembly Education Committee on either June 18th or 25th.
Now is the time to write a letter of support to the Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, Gene Mullin. To see a summary of the bill and download a sample letter of support, go to www.bayareapartnership.org and click on the Policy and Advocacy page, then on Legislation.
Thanks for your support!

CDE Clarifies Allowance of Staff Development Days for ASES Programs
We are very happy to report that the Calfornia Department of Education has finally clarified that After School Education and Safety Program grantees can close down operations for staff development for up to three days per school year. This provision had been written into Senate Bill 638 in 2006, but was never implemented due to a difference of interpretation between CDE and the legislature. After further examination, CDE concurred that the staff development days provision is clear and have added this to their FAQ's document. To see the language, go to www.cde.ca.gov/ls/ba/cp/documents/faq08.doc
